Job Overview

  • Open to undergraduate or graduate students of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields
  • Also available to post-graduates with relevant experience in a career change or seeking additional training
  • Gain experience in editorial and production processes for "The American Gardener" magazine
  • Opportunity to work on print and digital editions
  • Primary duties include researching, writing short articles, proofreading, fact-checking, and event calendar compilation
  • Participation in communication projects such as book editing, website updates, social networking, photography/videography
  • Guided field trips to local gardens and related sites as part of the internship
  • Three internship sessions offered annually (Winter/Spring, Summer, Fall)
  • Interns receive a pay rate of $12 per hour for a 40-hour week
  • Onsite, hybrid, and remote internships considered
  • Application deadlines: Winter/Spring (November 12), Summer (March 27), Fall (July 15)

Compensation

  • $12 per hour for a 40-hour week

Responsibilities

  • Researching and writing short articles
  • Proofreading and fact-checking
  • Compiling an event calendar
  • Coordinating author and photographer submissions
  • Possible participation in book editing, website updates, social networking, photography/videography

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate student of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields
  • Post-graduates with relevant experience in a career change or seeking additional training
  • Ability to work for a three- to four-month period
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
