Job Overview
- Open to undergraduate or graduate students of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields
- Also available to post-graduates with relevant experience in a career change or seeking additional training
- Gain experience in editorial and production processes for "The American Gardener" magazine
- Opportunity to work on print and digital editions
- Primary duties include researching, writing short articles, proofreading, fact-checking, and event calendar compilation
- Participation in communication projects such as book editing, website updates, social networking, photography/videography
- Guided field trips to local gardens and related sites as part of the internship
- Three internship sessions offered annually (Winter/Spring, Summer, Fall)
- Interns receive a pay rate of $12 per hour for a 40-hour week
- Onsite, hybrid, and remote internships considered
- Application deadlines: Winter/Spring (November 12), Summer (March 27), Fall (July 15)
Compensation
- $12 per hour for a 40-hour week
Responsibilities
- Researching and writing short articles
- Proofreading and fact-checking
- Compiling an event calendar
- Coordinating author and photographer submissions
- Possible participation in book editing, website updates, social networking, photography/videography
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate student of journalism, English, horticulture, or related fields
- Post-graduates with relevant experience in a career change or seeking additional training
- Ability to work for a three- to four-month period
- Strong organizational and communication skills
