Job Overview

The Health and Safety Supervisor is responsible for coordinating compliance with health and safety requirements on construction and environmental projects. They will actively promote and support health and safety programs at project sites. The supervisor will also oversee the completion of activity hazard analysis, provide training, author health and safety documentation, conduct regular inspections, and take appropriate actions to prevent loss and mitigate risk. Additionally, they will report incidents and conduct related investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of Accident Prevention Plans (APP)
  • Actively promote and support the health and safety programs at project sites
  • Oversee the completion of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) preparation and acceptance
  • Lead health and safety training for company staff, subcontractors, and other required parties
  • Author health and safety related documentation, completing required information for daily reports and client communications
  • Ensure that all documentation is organized and uploaded to the project portal
  • Provide guidance to subcontractors, clients, and project team members to ensure project activities are completed according to applicable health and safety plans
  • Conduct regular inspections to assess health and safety plan adherence and identify potential loss and risk
  • Take appropriate actions to prevent loss and mitigate risk in accordance with company standards and practices
  • Ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely and acceptable manner
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner in client and regulatory agency interactions
  • Report health and safety incidents to the company incident database
  • Conduct thorough investigations and accurately document corrective actions
  • Verify implementation of corrective actions and track and analyze documentation upon completion
  • Supervise and mentor Health & Safety Technicians
  • Review qualifications of subcontractors
  • Collaborate with Quality Control counterparts to ensure coordination between areas of responsibility
  • Other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Independent thinking and reasoning abilities
  • Demonstrated success in teaching health and safety concepts and requirements
  • Knowledge of contract compliance in government construction or environmental projects and federal regulations
  • Ability to effectively engage with subcontractors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows
  • Three years of progressive work experience in a health and safety role
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous success in working effectively in a dotted line reporting structure
  • Hands-on experience in industrial hygiene monitoring and use of hazardous work permits
  • Experience on environmental projects
