Job Overview

As a Training and Support Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to provide individualized support for interns at host business worksites or competitive jobs. Your role will involve job coaching, building natural supports, identifying job accommodations, and utilizing assistive technology. You will also communicate effectively with instructors, employers, co-workers, and agency personnel to ensure the success of our interns.


DOE (Depends on Experience)


  • Provide individualized support for interns at host business worksite rotation or competitive job.
  • Perform job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities.
  • Implement job coaching plans with interns and other relevant parties.
  • Collaborate with interns, employers, families, and job placement specialists to problem solve training and employment-related issues.
  • Train interns in grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and professional behavior.
  • Provide travel training if necessary.
  • Attend necessary trainings to stay updated on employment strategies.
  • Contribute to decision-making processes regarding training strategies and services.
  • Provide follow-along services to interns during their employment.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and within set deadlines.
  • Assist with instruction, planning, job development, and day-to-day tasks.
  • Transport interns to field trips, interviews, and orientations.
  • Adhere to host business and competitive work site standards.
  • Submit and complete job coaching paperwork.
  • Follow legal responsibilities for consumer safety and welfare.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Serve as an effective role model.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, humor, and a positive attitude.
  • Use sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Utilize standard English in communication.
  • Work as a productive team member with families, host businesses, and program partners.
  • Adapt to individual and cultural differences.
  • Protect privacy and confidentiality.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Maintain positive and supportive relationships with interns, families, and staff.
  • Use effective management and behavior strategies.
  • Ensure intern safety at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with all team members, including funding partners.
  • Complete required paperwork on time.
  • Transport interns and graduates in personal vehicle as needed.
  • Maintain personal vehicle in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain valid driver's license, insurance, and vehicle registration.
  • Maintain flexible work schedule to support interns' job searching and on-the-job needs.
  • Attend all Project SEARCH Professional Development meetings.
  • Attend host business orientations and meet all requirements.
  • Protect and maintain intern privacy.
  • Pass background checks and provide necessary immunization records.


  • Education/ Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience/ Knowledge required: Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Skills/ Abilities:
    • Effective and professional communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work with programming team to develop and implement behavior plans
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out programming effectively
