Under general supervision, performs at the full-performance level in taking applications, determining eligibility, and managing a caseload for various economic assistance programs. Conducts personal interviews, evaluates and verifies personal, financial, and social information, determines eligibility, maintains a client caseload, and refers clients to other social service and community agencies when necessary. Transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients to gather financial and social information for eligibility assessment.
  • Determine eligibility for specific programs and benefits.
  • Verify client data by contacting relevant institutions and individuals.
  • Complete necessary forms and codes for computer entry.
  • Schedule periodic office visits with assigned clients.
  • Respond to client calls and walk-ins, providing information on economic service programs.
  • Assess client circumstances and refer to community resources when necessary.
  • Explain program policies, rules, and regulations to clients.
  • Calculate benefit amounts and arrange reimbursements for over-payments.
  • Collect payments from individuals and households who received benefits incorrectly.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of economic service programs and policies.
  • Proficiency in interviewing techniques and communication.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret federal and state economic service policies.
  • Effective interaction with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Record keeping and basic math skills.
