Job Overview

This fellowship, administrated through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), offers a one-year opportunity for post-Master's degree candidates. The project focuses on developing and validating a tool to assess the thermal safety of histotripsy devices. The results will contribute to the development of FDA guidelines and international standards for characterizing these devices.

Compensation

  • Pay: Up to $85,000.00 per year
  • Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Internship
  • Benefits: Health insurance
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday

Responsibilities

  • Perform benchtop experiments using an ultrasound transducer system and tissue mimicking phantom
  • Investigate the effects of key test parameters (frequency, acoustic powers, pulse duration, etc.) on the temperature distribution inside the phantom
  • Conduct computational modeling of ultrasound-induced pressure and temperature fields
  • Analyze computational and experimental results, perform statistical analyses, and validate models

Requirements

  • On-site presence is required
  • Degree: Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 8/1/2023
  • Disciplines: Science or Engineering
  • Completion of a successful background investigation by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is required for onboarding. OPM can only conduct background investigations for individuals, including non-US Citizens, who have resided in the US for a total of three out of the past five years.
