Job Overview

Recreational therapists plan, direct, and coordinate recreation-based treatment programs. This position uses a variety of modalities, including arts and crafts; drama, music, and dance; sports and games; aquatics; and community outings to help maintain or improve a patient’s physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Compensation

Pay: $16.50 - $20.00 per hour Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Holidays
  • Monday to Friday
  • On call
  • Overtime
  • Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate: Bronx, NY 10463: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day activities of residents where assigned by the Recreation Director
  • Initiate and promote activities within facility and stimulate patient interests and well-being
  • Regulate programs in accordance with patient capabilities, needs, and interests.
  • Transport residents to and from activity room as required, in addition to other areas
  • Work with interdisciplinary team departments and staff members to promote the best possible care for the residents
  • Provide support and leadership for other activity department staff meetings, contact relatives for patients requests and work with relatives concerning patients concerns and needs
  • Involved in-service training , review their assessments and program goals.
  • Prepare progress reports for medical staff reflecting patient reactions and evidence of progress or regression
  • Maintain all activity related records required by regulations and Medical Records Department activity assessment, progress notes, and discharge summary
  • Assess patients’ needs using observation, medical records, tests, and discussions with other healthcare professionals, patients’ families, and patients
  • Take part in treatment plans and programs that meet patients’ needs and interests
  • Teach patients about ways to cope with stress, anxiety, or depression

Requirements

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification in Therapeutic Recreation or Certified Activities Director (Preferred)
  • 1 or more years’ experience in a skilled nursing setting (Preferred)
  • Must also have experience working with Dementia patients (Preferred)
