Job Overview

AHRC NYC's Advance & Earn is a free 20-week program designed to support Opportunity Youth (aged 16-24) in New York City. Participants will receive comprehensive High School Equivalency (GED) test preparation, employer-recognized trainings and certifications, paid internships, job placements, and more.

Compensation

  • Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
  • Benefits:

  • Schedule: Day shift
  • COVID-19 considerations: AHRC prioritizes the safety of employees and the people they support. CDC recommended policies and procedures such as PPE equipment, social distancing, and hand sanitizers have been implemented to ensure everyone's safety.

Responsibilities

Participants will:

  • Take part in either the Pre-GED instruction or GED Preparation programs
  • Attend in-person, small group sessions with individualized attention
  • Receive academic instruction to prepare for the GED exam
  • Undergo work readiness training
  • Receive job placement assistance
  • Obtain industry credentials
  • Receive college and career preparation support
  • Benefit from counseling and social/emotional support
  • Receive a weekly stipend of $150 for academic work (Pre-HSE Track)
  • Engage in paid internships with industry leaders, earning $15/hour for up to 250 hours (HSE Track)
  • Receive daily lunch, MetroCard, and a provided laptop or tablet
  • Receive support to obtain needed services and benefits
  • Attend classes 2 to 4 times a week at 136 Bay Street

Requirements

Qualified Participants:

  • Must be between 16 to 24 years old
  • Must live in any of the five boroughs of New York City
  • Must be out of school and have no post-secondary degree (Associates or higher)
  • Must be unemployed or working less than 35 hours per week
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
