Job Overview

BDO is seeking energetic self-starters to join our team as Core Tax Services Interns. In this role, you will utilize your educational background and organizational skills to support our client base through tax return preparation and extensions. This internship will provide you with a hands-on perspective on our firm's practices and people, and the opportunity to build critical relationships for your future success.

Compensation

Individual salaries offered to candidates are based on qualifications, experience, skills, and location.

  • California Range: $31.00/hr - $39.00/hr
  • Colorado Range: $22.00/hr - $30.00/hr
  • New York City/Valhalla Range: $32.00/hr - $36.00/hr
  • Washington Range: $31.00/hr - $36.00/hr

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance

    • Ensure client compliance with applicable tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens
    • Comply with firm policies, standards, and tax quality guidelines
    • Utilize referencing system and workpapers to complete tasks efficiently
    • Collect necessary data to comply with filing requirements
    • Proactively manage due dates and engagement letters
    • Use tax software applications to assist in tax return preparation
    • Perform quarterly estimates and prepare extensions
    • Assist in responses to IRS notices
    • Aid in year-end filing projections
  • ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals

    • Apply firm policies and tax quality guidelines regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48
    • Assist in income tax provision components
  • Tax Consulting

    • Develop and recommend methods to maximize client benefits and minimize taxes
    • Conduct online research to gather relevant tax information
    • Stay updated on tax laws and client developments
    • Communicate potential impacts to client service team
  • Other duties as required

Requirements

  • Education:

    • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Accounting or relevant field (required)
    • Pursuing a Master's degree in Accounting or relevant field (preferred)
  • Experience:

    • Leadership experience (preferred)
  • License/Certifications:

    • Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA
  • Software:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Other Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to follow instructions
    • Effective team player
    • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
    • Seeks guidance from superiors on compliance issues
    • Ability to prepare simple tax returns
