Job Overview

Arup’s Transportation, Logistics, and Urban Planning (TLUP) team is seeking a hardworking and motivated Urban Analytics Intern. In this role, you will work as part of a creative team to perform analyses, build visuals, and contribute to transportation-related projects focusing on equity, resilience, and innovation. The internship offers an opportunity to work with big datasets, integrate data visualization and analysis tools, and make a positive impact on urban planning outcomes.

Compensation

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job, if performed in New York City, NY, is $26.00 to $37.00 per hour. Please note that hiring ranges for candidates working outside of New York City, NY will differ.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical analyst and modeler on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Contribute to the development of analysis approaches and project directions
  • Find and clean open source data to fit project needs and create visuals to support projects
  • Develop tools and processes for automating workflows and managing dataset transformation
  • Create well-organized presentation materials and write reports for internal and external purposes
  • Present technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, computer science, data science, civil engineering, or similar technical field of study
  • Experience in a coding language
  • Interest in and curiosity about the built environment
  • Ability to apply statistics, data science, geospatial analysis, or visualization skills to urban challenges
  • Research-oriented and critical thinker
  • Interest in data management and interoperability best practices
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment
  • Eager to learn, highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization

Preferred:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in urban planning, computer science, data science, civil engineering, or similar technical field of study
  • Expertise in desktop GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience developing visuals in R and developing Shiny apps
  • Experience and interest in applying spatial solutions to complex engineering problems
  • Past history of technical presentations and technical writing
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git or SVN
