Position Summary:
The Federal Governmental Relations Department (FGR) of the University of California is located in Washington, DC. The office supports the University's missions of education, research, and public service by representing the University with the federal government. The office is responsible for identifying federal matters of concern to the University and advocating on behalf of the University of California system before the federal government.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Federal Governmental Relations, the Governmental Relations and Advocacy Assistant (GRAA) provides administrative, legislative and advocacy support to the legislative and senior staff. The GRAA performs administrative, legislative and advocacy related activities across a range of issues of interest to the University of California, including scheduling and event planning, legislative research, covering congressional hearings and other meetings, and assisting with the development and use of advocacy materials. While the position primarily works with the legislative and advocacy staff, the GRAA will assist the Operations Manager as requested.

Duties
Under the direction of the Associate Director, and in coordination with the legislative staff, the GRAA will track legislation, perform legislative research and assist with the development of legislative materials. The GRAA will cover legislative hearings, and may be asked to attend and report back on briefings and meetings, as well as other association, industry and coalition activities. In addition, the GRAA may be asked to respond to information requests, develop and analyze written communications, summarize reports and work on additional special projects as assigned.
