DescriptionThe Gift Shop / Retail Intern will assist the Gift Shop Manager and staff with day to day operations in the Butterfly House Gift Shop. The Butterfly House, located in Chesterfield, MO, is a not-for-profit organization which was established in 1995 to increase awareness of the natural habitat in which butterflies thrive. The Butterfly House opened its doors to the public in 1998 and provides educational opportunities to a diverse visitorship. The Butterfly House offers education programs, special events, lectures and, of course, the chance to witness more than 1500 butterflies in two habitats, one native and one tropical. In July, 2001, the Butterfly House became a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden.
ResponsibilitiesInterns will assist with greeting and assisting guests, answering questions from guests about all aspects of the Butterfly House, supervise volunteers, provide excellent guest service in both admissions and retail. Interns will be expected to learn, follow and uphold the Butterfly House retail policies and procedures. Interns will gain experience in visual merchandising and buying. This includes researching new products, entering purchase orders and receiving orders as they are delivered. Other duties include, but are not limited to: help with inventory, organizing and dusting of merchandise, assisting with promotional items, as needed, and implementing promotional efforts.

Pursuing or recently completed a degree in business or retail management, nonprofit management or marketing.
Ability to work weekends
140 hours minimum commitment (will adjust to meet school requirements)
2.5 cumulative GPA
High school seniors entering college in the fall are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
