Child Life Specialist (MSICU)
Schedule
Four 10.5 hour days with some weekend coverage in the MSICU.
Position Summary
MSICU Child Life Specialist
Key Responsibilities
- Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients.
- Serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Providing support to patients and families from birth to young adults.
- Providing support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement.
- Providing coping support for patients with both short and long‑term hospitalizations.
- Maintaining resources, including ordering and stocking unit areas.
- Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participating in the clinical training of student interns.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
- 600‑hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
- General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and evidence‑based knowledge.
- Well‑developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
- Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.
