Role
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern with 0–18 months of experience to support our growing Civil Engineering Department. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate, current undergraduate student, graduate student, or early-career professional interested in site civil engineering design.
The role will focus primarily on utility design and technical support, while also providing exposure to a wide range of NYC & NYS code regulations and design requirements including the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Buildings (DOB), Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), Department of Conservation (DEC), Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), and more.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the design of DEP Site & House Connection Plan for new sanitary and stormsewer connections.
- Support the design of DEP cross connection plans for new water and fire service connections.
- Assist senior staff with drafting for site civil engineering including storm water management, site grading and drainage, water and sewer design, sidewalk and street grading, erosion and sediment control, etc.
- Support preparing calculations for storm water management practices.
- Help review project drawings, specifications, submittals, and supporting documentation to coordinate and develop civil engineering drawings.
- Participate in project meetings, internal coordination, and team training opportunities as appropriate.
- Support senior staff with site visits for initial site assessment, construction inspections, and final inspections.
- Administration work including application processing and application management.
In this capacity you will interface with internal Project Managers, senior staff, regulatory authorities, other disciplinary consultants and/or architects on a routine basis, so strong communication skills are desired.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree completed or in progress in a related field, such as civil engineering and environmental engineering.
- 0–18 months of relevant internship, co-op, academic, or professional experience.
- Strong interest in site civil engineering design and construction.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3d, storm sewer modeling software is preferred.
- Ability to read and learn from architectural / engineer drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Strong attention to detail, especially with calculations, documentation, and program tracking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Google Workspace.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, take direction, and grow within a technical consulting environment.
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
This position may be structured as full-time, part-time, internship, or co-op, depending on candidate availability and business needs.
