Summary
SRP's Cyber Security Strategic Defense department is seeking an intern to support a wide range of functions within the Threat Management team. Threat Management serves as SRP's cyber security operations center (SOC), and is responsible for detection, response, and remediation of cyber security events across the enterprise.
The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department's needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 40 hours per week maximum.
Work week is Monday - Friday during support hours of 6am-6pm. Must be able to work 2 days on-site per week.
What You'll Do
- Develop skills and learn procedures to effectively identify, detect, contain, eradicate, recover, and document cyber incidents in an enterprise environment to effectively defend against cyber threats.
- Maintain awareness of current threat landscape utilizing threat intelligence from government and industry partners, as well as information security community resources.
- Learn about malware, cyber threat hunting, security analytic tool best practices, and vulnerability management.
- Support internal tool sets, including antivirus, Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR), IPS/IDS, sandboxing/emulation, forensic software, SEG/Email Security, etc.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and other cyber security teams on security control design, deployment, and configuration.
- Cultivate an understanding of SRP's network environment, critical applications, and infrastructure.
- Identify opportunities to develop new detections and monitoring capabilities based on log data and telemetry.
- Create and maintain documentation related to procedural workflows within the Security Operations domain, including playbooks, tool support guides, and knowledge base articles.
Education
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
Additional Requirements and Qualifications
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of Computer Operating systems, software, and hardware.
- Solid understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Information Technology and Cyber Security fields.
- Ability to communicate well with others and to perform work in a team environment.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset and exhibit a collaborative work style.
- Detail orientated, critical thinking, problem solving in a fast-paced technical setting.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office products.
Eligibility:
- In order to be eligible for the Student Intern Program at SRP, the employee must be actively enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours that are college level (100) or above over the course of a regular semester and must be working towards a degree from an accredited college or university.
- For an accelerated program, the student must be enrolled in six credit hours in the equivalent of a traditional semester.
- College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.
