DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This is a flexible six-month internship with the Department of Environmental Protection designed to support our laboratory environmental testing efforts, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will receive formal on-the-job training and valuable experience. By assisting in various laboratory activities, the intern will contribute to the organization's mission of delivering high-quality environmental data.
As a Commonwealth Public Service Intern, you will perform the following duties:
- Sample Handling: Receive, organize, document, and distribute samples among different laboratory sections
- Quality Control: Assist in analyzing environmental samples while adhering to quality control measures and maintaining necessary records according to guidelines
- Organization Support: Keeping the assigned laboratory area clean, safe, and organized is another key responsibility
- Laboratory Safety: Support sample and waste disposal procedures and participate in special projects
- Data Review: Contribute to strategic priorities through collaboration and commitment to data-driven decision-making

Work Schedule and Additional Information
Internship Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared bachelor's degree program and successful completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire. Full time undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least thirty (30) college credits and anticipate the completion of at least sixty (60) college credits at the time of hire may apply for this program; or
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited college/university in a declared master's or doctorate degree program at the time of hire.
Other Requirements
- This particular position also requires current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
