About Our Internship Program San Antonio Sports internships provide hands‑on professional experience within a nonprofit sports organization.
Interns are welcomed as contributing members of our team and have opportunities to collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners while supporting our programs and events throughout San Antonio. Our internship program is designed to help students apply what they are learning, strengthen their professional skills and explore career opportunities in sports, events, and nonprofit management. Interns will gain practical experience, receive guidance from members of the San Antonio Sports team, and see firsthand what it takes to deliver impactful community programs and high‑quality events.
We’re looking for curious, dependable, and self-motivated individuals who take initiative, communicate well, and enjoy working as part of a team. Position Overview The position will work primarily with the iPLAY! program, PREP League and ACTIVATE, with a particular focus on preparing for and supporting spring youth sports activities and events. This is a hands‑on position that includes a combination of program coordination, administrative support, equipment and inventory management, communications, and event‑day responsibilities.
Duties
& Responsibilities: Assist with the planning and execution of the iPLAY ! Soccer Tournament, PREP Flag Football Tournament, iPLAY! Flag Football Tournament, PREP Basketball Tournament, and preparations for the iPLAY!
Volleyball Tournament. Help organize, inventory and manage program equipment. Communicate with coaches and other program contacts as assigned.
Assist with the creation and distribution of coach and program materials. Manage uniform inventory, preparation and distribution. Provide administrative and logistical support for community programs.
Support San Antonio Sports events outside the Community Programs department, which may include ACTIVATE 5 Ks, the Hall of Fame Tribute and other organizational events. Participate as an engaged member of the San Antonio Sports team and assist with other projects as assigned. Qualifications: Current college student or recent graduate; coursework in sports management, business, nonprofit management, recreation, hospitality, marketing, communications or a related field is helpful but not required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to stay organized and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Dependable, proactive and willing to learn.
Positive, team‑oriented approach. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Schedule, Compensation, & Requirements: Approximately 15–20 hours per week, primarily during regular business hours of 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Hours are flexible and will be coordinated around the intern’s class schedule and departmental needs. Some evening or weekend availability will be required for programs and events. Reliable transportation is required for travel to the San Antonio Sports office at the Alamodome and event locations throughout San Antonio.
Must be able to lift and move program equipment weighing up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. One paid internship is available each semester at a rate of $12 per hour. Additional internship opportunities may be available for students seeking academic credit, subject to their college or university’s internship requirements.
