About the role
Role
Economic Empowerment aims to give refugees the most important thing they can have in the US: self-sufficiency. The intern will work with clients to secure them suitable jobs they can hold and benefit from in the future. The intern will also support case managers in the implementation of Economic Empowerment programs, including ESL classes and STRIVE (Student Training for Refugee and Immigrant Vocation and Education).
Key Accountabilities
- Assist clients with mock interviews
- Assist with in-house job fairs
- Conduct job research
- Provide resume aid
- Use a combination of research, resourcefulness, and communication skills to ensure that every client receives the support they need for long-term stability

Work Environment
This is a hands-on experience, composed in equal parts of work inside the office and in the community.
Duration and Schedule
This is an unpaid internship position requiring a commitment of 8-15 hours per week for a duration of one semester. We prefer interns to be available in the afternoons when Economic Empowerment programs are held. However, the schedule is flexible and can be tailored to accommodate the intern's academic requirements. The internship would run from August through December.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, International Relations, Human Services, Economics, or a related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive manner
- Detail-oriented with good organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto) is a plus
