JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineering Archives Intern position is a great opportunity to gain an introduction to infrastructure design document archiving processes at Amtrak. As part of the Planning & Engineering Support team within the Capital Delivery Department, this position will assist with imaging historical railroad drawings, cataloging new collections for the Archives, and maintaining documents within various physical and electronic storage systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Catalog design drawings and other related documents for archiving.
  • Assist with imaging historical design documents and reviewing digitized documents for clarity and accuracy.
  • Attach metadata to multi-disciplinary engineering and architectural documents (such as stations, track, communications & signals, power & electric traction, f leet, mechanical, etc) within document storage systems.
  • Curate document sets for inclusion on Amtrak's ArcGIS Asset Map.
  • Supporting Archive team as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Library Science or Archiving.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Desire to learn or develop knowledge about the railroad industry.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to multi-task.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office 360/365 products.
  • Quickly understands and uses processes and technologies that are continually being updated.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and with essential deadlines.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Good written, organizational, and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with construction design documents.
  • Familiarity with document management systems.
  • Familiarity with office equipment, photography, and scanners.
