Mission

Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) in partnership with our community, provides a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child’s serious illness or injury. RMHC-UM operates five locations in Minnesota---four in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth, and provides complimentary lodging, meals, and support to thousands of families every year.

Position Summary

RMHC-UM at Oak Street is seeking an intern(s) to support RMH Programs including special family events and adult and family programs during the day and evening. Responsibilities consist of planning, organizing, and leading field trips, activities, crafts, lesson plans, parties, and other various House events. You would be working directly with the Family Services Staff with the goal of providing safe, age-appropriate, engaging and rewarding experiences for all families using our services.

Major Job Accountabilities

This is an estimate of the duties to be included in the internship. The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern(s) and RMHC staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the Family Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise onsite activities for children ages 2.5-19 years old.
  • Plan, prep and lead onsite activities for school age children on weekdays for Afterschool program.
  • Weekly activity planning for nightly programs including but not limited to crafts, game nights, specialized clubs or focus groups and therapy programs
  • Organize special House events including Caregiver Only Night, birthday parties, movie nights and more.
  • Research potential future partnerships with local community groups and organizations
  • Assist with occasional weekend programming and activities
  • Assist/work one on one with Family Services Staff
  • Office administrative tasks
  • Assist with supporting the front desk

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Comfortable with children with potentially fragile medical conditions
  • Strong creativity with the ability to think outside the box
  • Demonstrate flexibility in the workplace
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good attention to detail and organization
  • Show kindness and empathy to families and children facing a health care crisis
  • Ability to multitask and deal with multiple personalities and situations
  • Interest in non-profits or family programming preferred
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and ages
  • Frequently communicates and engages information with families, staff and volunteers

Time Commitment

1. Available from September – January with option to continue based on performance

1. 15-40 hours per week with flexible days

1. Priority will be given to those available Tuesday/Thursday evenings until 8pm and are able to start in September

1. Sophomore, Junior or Senior pursuing a 4 year degree
