Join our accounting team as a paid Finance & Accounting Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting a variety of clients. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will assist with day-to-day accounting activities, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and the maintenance of accurate financial records. This opportunity is ideal for a student or recent graduate who wants to apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting while developing practical accounting and client-service skills.
Responsibilities
As a Finance & Accounting Intern, you will:
- Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a variety of clients.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and post journal entries under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Assist with general-ledger reconciliations and account analysis.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including entering invoices, recording payments, and verifying transactions.
- Review financial records and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Help organize and maintain client accounting records.
- Use accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or similar platforms to enter, review, and organize financial information.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Manage multiple assignments and meet established client deadlines.
- Protect confidential client and financial information.
- Support the accounting team with additional projects and administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, debits and credits, journal entries, and general-ledger accounting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential client information.
Preferred Qualifications
The following experience is helpful but not required:
- Previous accounting, bookkeeping, or office experience.
- Coursework involving financial accounting, financial statement preparation, or account reconciliation.
- Familiarity with Sage, Xero, or another accounting software platform.
- Experience working with spreadsheets, financial records, or transaction data.
- Interest in client-service accounting and working with businesses across a variety of industries.
