Government Affairs Internship
Description
Interns will assist in the coordination of meetings/projects with clients, city officials, and other key decision makers. Interns also provide support in preparing and delivering letters and reports, drafting memos and e-mail messages, compiling and maintaining spreadsheets, producing briefing books and materials, and other research, administrative and communication tasks. University credits offered.
Duties
- Research and provide input on issues related to our client's needs such as environmental issues, education issues, housing issues, economic development issues, legal issues, etc.
- Conduct research and track state, local, and federal legislation affecting our client's
- Attending council meetings, hearings or community meetings/events
- Participating in conference calls with clients and internal staff as necessary
- Assisting in business development opportunities
- Regularly communicate via e-mail and other means with the Director of Government Relations/Senior Lobbyist on project updates and other related issues
- Sending emails and making calls to government agencies on behalf of clients
- Update staff calendar with related events
- Complete weekly reports
- General administrative office support as needed
Qualifications
- Interest in government relations, lobbying, law, public policy, political science, or related field
- Ability to work collaboratively in promoting the goals and objectives of the office
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Creative and strategic thinking
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively use social media technology
