Consumer Banking Apprentice
First Merchants Bank is seeking a Consumer Banking Apprentice to join our team! The Consumer Banking Apprenticeship Program offers insight and hands‑on experience across all areas and levels of the bank. This unique opportunity allows students to explore the full range of careers in banking, far beyond the traditional teller role. Apprentices follow a structured pathway toward a rewarding future in financial services, learning about customer service, lending, operations, compliance, and more. They will discover all the possibilities the banking world has to offer while building professional skills for long‑term success. The Consumer Banking Apprenticeship is in partnership with the Financial Services Academy (fsaindiana.org), which is part of the new Indiana Career Apprenticeship Pathway (indianacap.org). This opportunity is open to High School students only and is part of the INCAP program and schedule.
About the Role
Service Associates assist clients with day‑to‑day banking needs by helping them to manage their money through bank products. They serve as the frontline representatives of a bank, building relationships and supporting clients' financial well‑being.
Program Overview
As apprentices progress toward becoming fully trained Service Associates, they will gain a solid understanding of key banking concepts and practices throughout the two‑year program, leading to a broad understanding of banking, including:
- Banking Structure, Strategy, and Leadership
- Customer‑Facing Services
- Lending and Products
- Compliance and Security
- Core, Transferable Professional Skills
Expectations
While participating in this apprenticeship, you will be expected to work towards the following:
- Indiana High School Diploma
- INCAP AP Credential
Requirements
To be successful in this position, we require the following:
- Junior or Senior in High School
- Enrolled in the Honors Plus Employment Seal program as part of your high school curriculum
