Job Summary
This technical intern position will ride along with and assist Substation Operations Technical Specialists with daily routine tasks, which will provide the intern with exposure and fundamental understanding of our substation control house DC systems. Specifically, this individual will interface with both battery monitors and battery charger monitors.
The intern will learn how the team periodically retrieves data throughout the day from each of these devices, how data is analyzed, and how automated alarming for threshold violations is configured. Basic tasks will include:
- Developing familiarity with substation one-lines and control design prints.
- Assisting with new monitor installations.
- Verifying internal and external wiring to monitor enclosures.
- Updating and maintaining software databases.
- Creating webpages for new monitor installations.
- Resolving loss of communication alarms.
- Terminating fiber optic cable and punching down ethernet cable.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Prefer candidates with good problem-solving skills while working with mechanical and/or electrical equipment and control circuits.
- Computer aptitude and experience with software applications.
- Familiarity with operating and handling power tools.
- Must be able to follow instructions and be a team player.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Time management and organizational skills.
Education Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- Must be graduating in Spring 2028 or later.
- Must have a 3.0 GPA or above.
