Overview Hussmann's Internship Program provides meaningful, real-life experiences while working as a solutions leader in the food retailing industry. Hussmann interns receive competitive compensation, participate in community stewardship, network with company leadership, and learn about career opportunities available at Hussmann. As an Advanced Technology Research Intern in the 2027 Hussmann Summer Internship Program, you will gain experience and insight into emerging refrigeration technologies and the research activities that support future product development.

You will work with engineers and technical leaders to evaluate new technologies, support laboratory testing, analyze performance data, and assist with prototype development activities.

Responsibilities Assist with the evaluation, testing, and validation of emerging technologies, innovative product concepts, and advanced engineering solutions through prototype development, laboratory testing, and data analysis. Support laboratory testing activities, including instrumentation setup, data acquisition, performance monitoring, and test reporting. Assist with prototype assembly, troubleshooting, modification, and validation activities.

Collect, analyze, and present engineering data using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar software. Support engineering studies related to thermodynamics, heat transfer, controls, energy efficiency, and system performance. Assist in the design and fabrication of test fixtures, experimental equipment, and prototype systems used in engineering evaluations.

Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to support research, development, and technology assessment activities. Network with senior leaders, associates, and other program interns to learn about our organization. Tour Hussmann's 1.6 million square foot manufacturing facility, our Global Hub for hosting customers, and the R&D Lab where we test product quality.

Participate in community stewardship outreach, career development events, and other team-building offsite events. Compete in our annual Ideation & Innovation Challenge. Ideation & Innovation Challenge: Throughout the twelve-week program, all Hussmann interns will divide into cross-functional teams and compete with one another for the Hussmann Ideation & Innovation Challenge.

Working with Hussmann mentors and leaders, you and your team will identify a solution to a provided problem statement. At the end of the summer, you’ll present your team’s business proposal to a panel of judges, executive leaders, and the organization – and possibly create a roadmap for Hussmann’s next great innovation.

Qualifications Currently enrolled in a bachelor degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, or related fields. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Highly motivated and eager to learn. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, refrigeration, or energy systems.

Experience with laboratory testing and instrumentation. CAD experience (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).

Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, MATLAB, or Python. Hands-on fabrication or prototype development experience. The summer internship will run from the third week of May through the first week of August.
