Department Summer Program, you will gain experience working with students with various disabilities. This internship introduces you to the classroom setting and is a great opportunity for students who want to explore teaching, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, speech therapy or other human service‑oriented careers.

Key Responsibilities

Student Interaction: Interact with and support students during activities such as breakfast, lunch, learning activities, socialization and recreation time under teacher supervision. Classroom Preparation: Assist with classroom activities, set‑up, organization and clean‑up. Team Collaboration: Work closely with teaching and support staff to ensure a positive learning environment.

Data Collection: Assist with data collection and willingness to learn assistive technology.

Qualifications

Must be 16+ years old. Interns must complete all Salem Public Schools required paperwork before the start of the internship. Interns must be able to work all 5 weeks up to 20 hours per week.

Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and contribute to the team. Good communication skills. Attendance: report to work as scheduled, sign in, and remain on the job until dismissed.

Notify the summer director at the earliest possible time when unable to work. Displays patience, a positive attitude and willingness to learn to work with students with a wide variety of abilities. Open to feedback and working collaboratively.
