About the role

Position Overview

We, Indiana Home Title, LLC, are seeking a motivated law student to join our title insurance agency and real estate firm as a Law Intern. This internship offers hands-on exposure to real estate transactions, title insurance, escrow and closing processes, title examination, curative work, and related legal research. The intern will work closely with attorneys, title professionals, escrow officers, and real estate staff to support client matters and transaction workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and factual research related to real estate law, title insurance, liens, easements, encumbrances, surveys, probate, entity authority, and conveyancing issues.
  • Assist with reviewing title commitments, title reports, exception documents, surveys, deeds, mortgages, releases, affidavits, powers of attorney, and closing documents.
  • Support title curative efforts by organizing documentation, preparing draft correspondence, and tracking outstanding requirements needed to clear title.
  • Prepare initial drafts of memoranda, client correspondence, closing checklists, objection letters, and internal summaries for attorney or supervisor review.
  • Observe and assist with residential and commercial real estate closings, including document preparation, file organization, and post-closing follow-up.
  • Help maintain transaction files, due diligence materials, and document management systems in an accurate and organized manner.
  • Communicate professionally with attorneys, lenders, agents, clients, county offices, and internal team members under supervision.
  • Perform administrative and project-based tasks that support the legal, title, escrow, and real estate teams.

Learning Opportunities

  • Gain practical experience with the title insurance process from order intake through closing and policy issuance.
  • Develop familiarity with real property records, title defects, underwriting considerations, and real estate transaction timelines.
  • Observe how legal, title, escrow, and real estate professionals coordinate to resolve transaction issues.
  • Build professional writing, legal research, client service, and transaction-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an accredited law school; completion of at least one year of law school preferred.
  • Interest in real estate law, title insurance, property transactions, land records, contracts, or transactional practice.
  • Strong legal research, writing, proofreading, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments with deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills and discretion when handling confidential client and transaction information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with legal research platforms, real estate records, or document management systems is a plus.

Schedule, Location, and Compensation

  • Schedule: Some flexibility, 20-40 hours per week.
  • Location: Carmel, Indiana; in-office.
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on availability and anticipated length of employment established upon hiring, and Academic credit eligible, if available and subject to applicable legal and law school requirements.
