**Position:** Legal Support Intern
**Reports To:** Legal Counsel
**Department:** LG Operations
**Location:** Chicago, IL
**Schedule:** Part-Time (10–20 Hours Per Week); Hybrid
**Target Start Date:** September 2026
**Compensation:** $25–$30 per hour
**Internship Duration:** Academic Year 2026–2027
Core Accountabilities
- Litigation Administrative Support: Provide day-to-day administrative support for ongoing litigation matters, ensuring legal records, correspondence, and case materials are properly maintained and organized.
- Document & Case File Management: Maintain physical and electronic legal files, organize discovery materials, exhibits, pleadings, contracts, and support documentation related to active matters.
- Trial Preparation Support: Assist with preparation of materials, exhibits, witness files, document indexes, and administrative requirements associated with upcoming trials and hearings.
- Legal Project Coordination: Support execution of legal department projects by tracking tasks, deadlines, deliverables, and document requests across multiple stakeholders.
- Legal Research & Drafting Assistance: Conduct basic legal research and assist in preparing templated legal documents, summaries, correspondence, and administrative filings under attorney supervision.
- Department Organization & Process Improvement: Contribute to the creation and maintenance of procedures, tracking systems, and organizational tools to improve legal department efficiency and readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation Support
- Organize and maintain litigation files and support documents.
- Assist with discovery document collection, organization, and tracking.
- Track court deadlines, case milestones, and litigation schedules.
- Coordinate document requests from internal teams and external counsel.
- Prepare case binders and document packages as directed.
Trial Preparation
- Assist with exhibit organization and indexing.
- Support preparation of witness files and trial materials.
- Coordinate logistics related to hearings, depositions, and trial preparation.
- Ensure records and supporting documentation are complete and accessible.
Legal Administration
- Maintain legal records and filing systems.
- Organize contracts, correspondence, notices, and legal documentation.
- Assist with intake and tracking of legal matters.
- Maintain accurate electronic document repositories.
Research & Documentation
- Perform basic legal research assignments.
- Summarize findings and supporting materials.
- Assist with drafting templated responses, correspondence, and legal documents.
- Support preparation of reports and presentations for business stakeholders.
Project Management Support
- Monitor ongoing legal projects and upcoming deliverables.
- Track action items and follow-up requirements.
- Support coordination between legal, development, construction, and executive teams.
Success Metrics
- Litigation Readiness: Legal files, exhibits, and trial materials are maintained accurately and organized for immediate access.
- Document Accuracy: Legal documents, records, and filings are maintained with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Deadline Management: Critical litigation and project deadlines are tracked and communicated effectively.
- Administrative Efficiency: Legal Counsel receives reliable administrative support that improves responsiveness and department productivity.
- Organization & Process Improvement: Opportunities to improve legal workflows and document management systems are identified and implemented.
- Professional Development: Demonstrates growth in legal knowledge, professionalism, and understanding of litigation and corporate legal operations.
Requirements
Education
- Current 2L or 3L student enrolled in an accredited law school.
- Strong academic standing preferred.
Experience
- Previous internship, clerkship, legal assistant, or administrative experience preferred.
- Exposure to litigation, real estate law, construction law, or commercial law is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
