Position Summary
This position will support the Engineering team by contributing to key projects and initiatives that align with Southwire's strategic goals. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively. They should demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and analytical skills, and a willingness to continuously learn. Candidates should have an computer programming (Java, Python, Etc.), automation technologies, and industrial control systems, along with a demonstrated ability and desire to develop these technical skills. The role also offers opportunities to create and maintain an interactive troubleshooting guide, support knowledge-sharing initiatives, and gain hands-on experience with engineering projects that drive operational improvement and business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Development and testing of an interactive system for problem identification and troubleshooting that can grow as we learn more and add equipment.
- Development of training material to help with new technician orientation.
- Document how the software should be used, how it works, and how information can be added.
- Assist engineering and maintenance in daily troubleshooting of equipment issues.
- Assist with the design, development, and testing of new or modified equipment, components, and systems.
- Assist in updating and creating engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
- Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety within manufacturing processes.
- Participate in equipment installations, commissioning activities, or process trials under guidance from engineers.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results.
- Engage with cross-functional teams including maintenance, production, quality, and safety to drive project success.
- Support internal and external communication efforts related to engineering projects and initiatives.
- Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree
- Enrolled in an Software engineering, Computer Science, Electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
