About the role
As a Medical Advocate Intern, you will provide 24-hour support to survivors of sexual assault in hospital emergency rooms and police districts. This role centers on offering comfort and stability during difficult moments, such as medical exams, evidence collection, and police interviews. You will work alongside veteran advocates and connect with partner organizations to support survivors through the recovery process.
What you'll do
- Provide on-call medical advocacy in hospital and police settings.
- Offer comfort and support to survivors during examinations and interviews, provided you have their permission.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and supportive approach in all interactions.
- Complete a mandatory 40-hour Crisis Intervention Training program.
- Engage with experienced advocates and sister organizations to gain professional experience.
What you'll need
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A one-year service commitment is required.
- You need a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- A mobile phone is required for on-call duties.
- The role requires a flexible schedule to accommodate the on-call nature of the work.
- Relevant academic backgrounds include Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing.
Location & details
- This is an on-site, unpaid internship.
- Positions are available in Chicago, Chicago Heights, and Addison, Illinois.
- The schedule varies based on on-call needs.
