Beginning Teacher Mentor – General Science & Chemistry

LOCATION

Lewis County High School

CERTIFICATION

Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
• Satisfactory evaluations for the past five (5) years

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and deliver an orientation program for the beginning intern prior to the start of the instructional term, within the employment term (unless intern hired after the start of the term).
• Observe the classroom teaching skills of the beginning intern for at least one hour per week during the first half of the mentoring program; may be reduced at the mentor's discretion to one hour every two weeks during the second half.
• Conduct weekly meetings with the beginning intern to discuss performance and any improvements; may be reduced at the mentor's discretion to biweekly meetings during the second half of the school year.
• Conduct monthly meetings of the professional support team to discuss the beginning intern's performance.
• Complete and submit all paperwork relating to the internship program.
• Attend any state required county/state training sessions.
• Internship must consist of two full semesters.

COMPENSATION

$100.00 per month, not to exceed $1,000.00 (based on submission of monthly paperwork). Compensation discontinued if the intern resigns; not to exceed the current school year.
