**Position:** Nursing Advanced Practice Providers at Main Campus Dearth Tower
**Work Schedule:** On-call/Flexi on the Evening Night Shift, 16 hours per month minimum; night and weekend requirements
Summary:
The Advanced Practice Provider is an advanced practice registered nurse or physician's assistant with education, training, certification, and licensure to provide the medical, psychiatric, behavioral, and mental-health care in a variety of treatment settings. The APP will assess, diagnose, and treat pediatric patients with behavioral health diagnoses. This care is provided to support optimal health of children within the context of their family, community, and environmental setting. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and scholarship. This individual works in collaboration with the collaborating physician, Division Medical Director, staff physicians, Lead APP, Director of Advanced Practice Providers, Department Director, staff nurses and other team members.
Education:
- MSN, DNP or Post-Graduate Certificate with specialization as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
- Graduate of master's or doctoral level physician assistant program
Experience:
- At least 1 year of nursing or medical experience required with experience in the subspecialty area preferred
Licensures, Certifications, And/or Registries:
- Must be eligible to practice as a nurse practitioner as determined by the Alabama Board of Nursing or as a physician assistant as determined by the Alabama Board of Medicine
- Current RN Licensure in the State of Alabama for nurse practitioners
- Current BLS certification
- Valid PMHNP certification from appropriate certifying board or certification as PA-C from NCCPA
Essential Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:
- Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner ABON
- Basic Life Support
- Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
- Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner ANCC
Essential Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
- Masters of Science Nursing in Nursing

The Nursing Advanced Practice Providers (APP) department comprises highly trained nurse practitioners and physician assistants who provide expert, autonomous, and collaborative care throughout nearly all divisions of the health system. APPs serve a critical role in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management, delivering quality healthcare by working closely with physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams. Their responsibilities extend from direct patient care and health promotion to leading quality improvement initiatives and contributing to clinical education. By integrating advanced clinical knowledge with compassionate care, the APP department enhances patient outcomes, improves access to services, and supports the health system's commitment to delivering comprehensive, high-quality care across diverse clinical settings.
