Networking Specialist IT Field Engineering Intern
We are seeking an enthusiastic, tech-savvy, and personable individual to join our team as an IT Field Engineering Intern (Sysadmin). In this role, you will work closely with our core engineering team to learn the ins and outs of modern IT infrastructure. This is a working internship where you will actively shadow and learn hardware installation, perform advanced systems troubleshooting, design and configure networks, and help with large-scale project rollouts along-side our field engineering team.
The internship goal is to train and transition successful candidates into full-time employment within our IT department. Most interns receive a full-time offer letter within 3 to 6 months of graduation.
Schedule & Location
- Hours of Operation: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
- Flexibility: We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your school or existing work commitments.
- Commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per week (up to 40 hours available).
- Work Environment: Hybrid (Work-from-home flexibility, but requires traveling to our office for hardware configuration and visiting local client sites as needed).
Key Responsibilities
- Systems & Network Support: Assist in configuring, updating, and troubleshooting servers, systems, and network infrastructure (including Cisco equipment).
- Hardware Deployment: Learn to configure, and deploy workstations, servers, network infrastructure and peripherals for client environments.
- Escalated Troubleshooting: Shadow senior sysadmins to diagnose complex technical issues spanning hardware, software, and network layers.
- Project Rollouts: Participate in the planning and execution of IT lifecycle updates, migrations, and system deployments.
- Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate documentation of system configurations and support procedures.

Requirements
Note: To be considered for this position, the following criteria must be clearly documented on your resume:
- Education/Experience: Currently enrolled in (or graduated from) an Associate or Bachelor's degree program in Network/Systems Administration, Information Technology, or a related field—OR possess at least one (1) year of direct, hands-on IT support experience.
- Technical Familiarity: Hands-on experience or academic coursework involving the configuration, management, or troubleshooting of server and networking equipment.
- Mobility: Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle for travel to client sites and our main office.
- Location: Must reside within 50 miles of the Madison, WI area.
Preference
Preference given to candidates with the below additional qualifications:
- Previous experience with HyperV hypervisor and Microsoft Server operating systems
- Current or former certifications: A+, MCAF, MCAA, VCP, CCNA, CCENT
