About the role

The Washington Post is seeking college juniors, seniors, and graduate students for the newsroom flagship summer internship program. Interns work alongside award-winning journalists and are treated as staff members during their time at the company. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Washington, D.C. for Summer 2027.

What you'll do

  • Craft visual packages and presentations of content for the website, mobile app, newsletters, and social media.
  • Experiment with various storytelling formats.
  • Create content-driven illustrations for use across multiple platforms.
  • Report and write articles, edit copy, take photographs, shoot and edit video, produce audio, and perform data analyses.

What you'll need

  • Enrollment as a college junior, senior, or graduate student in a degree program. Relevant majors include Graphic Design, Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or Computer Science.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Experience working with photography and video as a visual designer.
  • A commitment to accuracy, clarity, and journalistic rigor.
