About the role
OCL Digital Collaborative - Library Student Assistant The OCL Digital Collaborative is looking for two reliable and responsible students to produce highly accurate OCR (Optical Character Recognition) results for our newspaper digitization project. You will work with one of the industry’s best OCR programs, Abbyy Fine Reader PDF , to create editable and searchable text from scanned images. You must love to read and appreciate the quirky layout of old newspapers.
In addition, students will need to be cross-trained on using the Internet Archive’s Tabletop Scribe to create digital reproductions of various titles from the library’s special and archival collections. Other duties include using AI to assist with metadata creation, research, and content description and writing. Close attention to detail and the ability to stay focused while doing very tedious work is a requirement for this position.
Responsibilities Typical duties include: verifying and correcting OCR errors and omission digitization and scanning image processing and editing downloading and uploading files to desired location
