**Position Title** Pharmacy Student Intern/Extern

**Position Summary** Assist pharmacists and technicians in providing pharmaceutical care to patients. Perform technician duties: preparation and packaging of unit dose medications (oral, injectable, topical, rectal, inhaled, ophthalmic, otic); delivering medications to nursing units; restocking satellite med stations (pyxis); medication reconciliation interviews; triaging phone calls. Under the direct supervision of a clinical pharmacist, work in various pharmacy satellite locations performing pharmacokinetic dosing of antibiotics, warfarin dosing, full medication profile reviews, patient counseling, renal dosing of medications, high-risk medication assessments, pain regimen monitoring, post-fall reviews, anticoagulation therapy management, diabetes monitoring, discussions of patient-specific therapy with nurses, providers, and patients, and participation with the nutrition support team in dosing of TPNs. Create an end-of-summer presentation each year to pharmacy staff.
**Education, Training, Experience, Certification, and Licensure** - Must be accepted to an accredited college of pharmacy. - Ideally, the student will be eligible for New Zealand State Board of Pharmacy Intern license, have completed the 1st year of professional study, but we are willing to consider students in pre-professional years of study.
**Special Equipment, Skills or Other Requirements** All department equipment and supplies.
**Work Environment and Hazards** Office and Clinical Setting: Exposure Class II – no exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions or secretions. Rare/infrequent exposure to chemicals with potential to cause skin/mucus membrane irritation.
**Physical Demands** Medium work: must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push, and pull.
**Work Contact Group** All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, various regulatory and professional agencies.
**Supervised By** Pharmacy Leadership Team/Staff Pharmacists
**Pay Range** $18.50–$23.00 based on experience and location
