Purpose

The principal is the instructional leader of their school. The principal creates the vision for the school and translates that vision into reality. Responsibilities include managing staff, students, and overall operations of a high school, upholding academic standards through curriculum oversight and student progress assessment, fostering an inclusive learning environment, managing school budgets, maintaining facilities, enforcing policies, and ensuring positive learning climate. The principal directly influences academic achievement, staff and student growth, and community involvement.

Qualifications Required

• Master's degree in Education, Administration, or related field
• Minimum five (5) years teaching experience at the secondary level
• Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience
• Valid Arizona teaching and principal certificate
• Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Specific administrative experience through internship or prior employment in public schools, including experience as a secondary assistant principal
• Expertise in curriculum and instructional strategies, student assessment development and analysis, and instructional technology
• Demonstrated background in instructional leadership and collaborative work
• Effective communication and organizational skills with clarity and conciseness
• Knowledge of dropout intervention best practices to connect students to the school community
• Ability to assume responsibility, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential material
• Knowledge of Arizona academic standards and ability to interpret test data to improve instruction
• Strong professional relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community
• Experience and knowledge in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, and Alternative Education programs
• Educational leadership through membership and participation in professional organizations and student/community projects
• Forward‑looking educational vision and openness to change
• Competence in planning and developing educational facilities

Preferred

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Knowledge of the district's departments, policies, and procedures

Essential Functions

• Provide strong instructional leadership for implementation of Arizona academic standards addressed in the District's curriculum
• Develop, monitor, and evaluate the school's Continuous Improvement Plan
• Plan for an educational program and school climate that provides the greatest learning opportunities for all students
• Administer and maintain discipline throughout the student body and staff
• Implement the District‑approved program of instruction, creating a conducive school atmosphere, developing and evaluating educational programs, providing guidance and health services, and interpreting data for program improvement
• Perform personnel management functions: recommend personnel selections, interview teachers, supervise instructional performance, supervise classified staff, evaluate student placement, coordinate Summer School, lead textbook selection committees, establish communication lines, and disseminate budgets across curriculum areas
• Lead staff in interpreting test data to improve instruction
• Lead a system for monitoring student performance, identifying needs, and communicating student development
• Assess staff professional development needs
• Maintain and improve physical aspects of the school plant for health and safety
• Supervise and evaluate certified and classified staff, promoting professional growth
• Lead staff selection and orientation
• Demonstrate fiscal accountability for all school funds
• Enforce discipline and maintain high student conduct standards
• Maintain working relationships with stakeholders, students, parents, and community members
