Public Policy Intern Saint Paul Minnesota

Job Description:

Violence Free Minnesota is the statewide coalition to end relationship abuse. We are a nonpartisan coalition of domestic violence service providers who seek to change domestic violence narratives, propose policy, and support survivors. As a public policy intern, you will assist our policy team in researching, writing, communicating about, and implementing statewide solutions to domestic violence issues. You will help us generate feedback from crime victims' advocates, survivors, and survivors' families. You will also help us coordinate statewide advocacy efforts on broader public safety topics with values-aligned nonprofits.

This is a two-semester internship (or three trimesters if applicable). September-December will be focused on policy research and development. January-May will be focused on policy advocacy and implementation.

Our office has a flexible and self-driven working environment. We are willing to work with students to identify the roles which they would thrive in, and give freedom for students to identify their primary interests. Possibilities include: policy research, organizing around policy issues, communications on policy issues, administrative work, systems change work, and more.

Hours: 20 per week, but flexible to fit intern's needs.

Pay: $20 per hour

Hybrid in person and remote. In person portions in St. Paul, Minnesota. Most tasks remote.

Not supervised by a social worker. We are willing to work with social work schools to find outside instructors to supervise students if needed for credit.

Qualifications: Undergraduate, masters of social work, masters of public health, law student, or masters of public policy. Specifics of the internship can be adjusted according to student qualifications and interests.

Preferred Strengths: Self-driven and comfortable with flexible workplaces, receptive to feedback, strong writer, capable of basic social media communications and post design.
