DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Retirement Systems Intern with PSERS, you will be responsible for a wide range of responsibilities such as completing data entry; sending correspondence; reviewing documents for accuracy; as well as filing, reviewing, and scanning duties. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Data Handling: Complete data entry, review documents for accuracy, and maintain organized records
  • Member Support: Greet visitors, address routine questions, and send member correspondence for appointments and benefit updates
  • Mail Processing: Process incoming and outgoing mail and respond to basic inquiries such as income verifications
  • Report Preparation: Create reports for employers and assist with gathering salary, service, and contribution data
  • Office Coordination: Organize supplies, schedule meetings, support counseling presentations, and help document account-related member communications/interactions and business procedures

Essential functions of this position include: proficiency with computers, ability to complete work assignments in a professional manner, ability to follow directions, ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally, provide customer service, ability to learn new skills and software, and the ability to use office equipment such as a scanner, copier, and fax machine.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

This internship begins upon the date of hire and runs until graduation.

Work Schedule: Students must be able to work a minimum of 10 to 15 hours per pay period with a minimum of 2 days in-office per week during the business hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Within these parameters, hours are flexible with school schedules.

Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits)
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • You must possess computer proficiency, such as familiarity with the keyboard, typing skills, and the ability to operate or work on a computer.
  • You must possess professional skills such as communication skills, teamwork, time management, and computer literacy.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is located in Scranton, Lackawanna County.
  • You must live within commuting distance to the Scranton office in Lackawanna County.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
