Join the Coastal Carolina Medical Center team as a Certified Sterile Processing Tech!
- Status: Full Time
- Schedule: 0730-1800 - 4 10 hour shifts a week
What You'll Do
Collaborate closely with the OR and Endoscopy nursing staff to prioritize urgent instrument and scope turnaround times. Decontaminate, clean, and disinfect surgical instruments, medical equipment, and rigid/flexible scopes according to OSHA, AAMI, and CDC guidelines. Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and defects prior to sterilization; report any damaged equipment for repair. Assemble and wrap instrument trays, surgical packs, and specialized kits accurately using count sheets. Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (e.g., steam autoclaves, low-temperature gas plasma, washers/disinfectors), ensuring all biological and chemical indicators are documented correctly. Maintain meticulous records of sterilization cycles, load verifications, and equipment maintenance logs to ensure full regulatory compliance. Execute high-level disinfection protocols, including testing and logging chemical minimum effective concentrations (MEC). Safely handle, transport, and store clean and contaminated endoscopes using designated infection control pathways to prevent cross-contamination.
What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Experience: One year of experience in a hospital Sterile Reprocessing Department, preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Sterile processing tech certification, required. CBSPD, CRCST or CSPDT, required.
Additional Skills (required)
- Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
- Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays.
- Ability to learn and understand medical terminology.
