For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .* * JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Student Fitness Equipment Staff. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 square foot Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Student Fitness Equipment Staff are responsible for providing operational support for fitness equipment in Campus Recreation facilities.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities & Operations and Coordinator for Facilities and Operations, Student Fitness Equipment Staff are considered an extension of Facilities & Operations. The position requires a mechanical aptitude, experience in the use of hand and power tools, and the ability to problem solve while working independently or as part of a team. Job duties include but are not limited to: Assisting in the overall administration and management of the fitness equipment maintenance program.

Assembling, moving, cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, and performing general maintenance and repairs on cardio, free weight and selectorized fitness equipment. Collaborating with external service companies performing warranty, maintenance, and repair tasks as needed. Tracking inventory, stocking parts and supplies.

Maintaining accurate records on maintenance performed and other detailed reports. Maintaining professionalism, either while assisting patrons or attending to other work tasks. Assisting in safety, security and risk management protocols for facilities.

Equipment Staff will be responsible for wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and contributing to a safe work environment. Student Fitness Equipment Staff must possess the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal skills. Must be a team player, willing to cover or trade shifts when necessary.

Ability to recognize and identify unruly patrons or unsafe behaviors. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds with or without accommodation.

Equipment Staff must complete in house CPR/First Aid/AED training within 30 days of employment or provide current certification. Positions are available year-round. Applications will be kept on file through January 1, 2022 and will be reviewed as positions become available.
