As an intern in our Systems Design group, you'll play a role in developing innovative products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) R&D organization, which serves the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Urology divisions. Join our experienced design team to collaborate on cutting-edge technologies and engage in a wide range of activities, including:
- Assisting systems engineers on product definitions and system architecture.
- Developing complex electromechanical systems, including embedded systems, sensors, and algorithms, with teams of hardware engineers, software engineers, and research scientists.
- Interfacing with cross functional stakeholders on product design and functionality.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Executing systems engineering activities such as requirements definition and decomposition, system architecture design, and system design documentation.
- Applying critical thinking skills to solve system level problems.
- Collaborating with cross-functional peers to assess product risk/benefit trade-offs and make timely decisions and recommendations for project success.
- Assisting with integrating AI models into device functionality, development processes, and/or data analysis workflows.
- Communicating findings and progress clearly across diverse teams, adapting technical language for varied audiences.
- Demonstrating initiative in learning new tools, platforms, and methodologies relevant to medical device innovation.
Required Qualifications:
- Working towards a Bachelors or higher degree in Biomedical or Electrical Engineering (grad date by May 2028)
- Prior Boston Scientific internship with AIS R&D department
- Must be able to start internship on May 17th or 24th, 2027 and work for 12 weeks
- Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
- Experience with testing-related projects in school or work
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to build effective cross functional relationships.
- Leadership skills with the capability to make trade-offs between risks, benefits, and performance.
- Prior internship or project experience in active implantable medical device development or testing.
- Knowledge of CRM systems and products (i.e., ICDs, pacemakers, CRTs, diagnostic devices, programmers, etc.) a plus.
- Experience with systems engineering principles and requirement management tools a plus.
