About the Role
Waterwell is seeking a Paid Intern for the 2026-27 season. Waterwell is committed to making sure that every intern has a rich and valuable professional development experience. The intern will work closely with Managing Director, Sarah Scafidi, Artistic Director and two-time Obie Award winner Lee Sunday Evans, and Communications Associate, Anna Item. Our goal is for interns to gain invaluable hands-on experience with a wide range of tasks that will prepare them to work in the field as entrepreneurial, artistic-minded leaders.
Duration and Schedule
August 25, 2026 - July 2, 2027
15 hours/week - whenever possible we will customize the intern's weekly schedule, including start and end dates, and time off requests to fit the needs of the selected applicant. Occasional nights and weekends will be required for events or when in production. Note that Waterwell will be closed December 25-January 1.
Compensation
Hourly at $18/hr
Key Responsibilities
The intern will work most closely with Waterwell's Managing Director supporting Waterwell's administrative and managerial functions. Areas of responsibility will include:
General Admin/Finance
- Enter receipts into tracking system.
- Support the Board via the Fundraising and Marketing committees as needed and at quarterly Board meetings: taking minutes, preparing document packets, ordering catering, etc.
Fundraising/Development
- Assist with writing and implementing letters of gratitude, formal acknowledgment letters, and gifts for high-level donors.
- Utilize Waterwell's CRM software for donation tracking and reporting.
- Administer Waterwell's membership program.
- Provide support at fundraising events.
- Assist with writing and gathering materials for grant applications.
Communications
- Work alongside Waterwell's Communications Associate on social media, email marketing, and upkeep of Waterwell's website.
- Intern may be asked to take photos and videos at Waterwell events and edit as needed.
General Management/Company Management
- Work on tasks related to the management and producing of Waterwell's productions: generating contract drafts, supporting payroll, creative team hospitality, logistics coordination, etc.
Producing
- On occasion, there will be opportunities to work with the Artistic Director on tasks like production research, drafting project proposals, and collecting materials for programs or audience resource documents.
Core Competencies
We are looking for a self-starter who is a great communicator and passionate art-lover, and ideally someone who is interested in a professional journey that includes arts or theater management within a broader desire to learn about how a values-driven nonprofit theater runs. We value kindness, generosity, and flexibility as fundamental aspects of our collaborative office and producing culture. Strong writing skills with the capacity for clear, nuanced writing and the ability to work independently are a must. A working knowledge of G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite is required. Experience with fundraising or box office CRM software, Canva, and/or basic video editing is a plus.
