Role
The Stark County Park District is currently seeking Wildlife Rehabilitation Enrichment intern to further their education and experience at our Wildlife Conservation Center. If you're passionate about wildlife and wish to gain some hands-on experience in the care, cultivation, and maintenance of live food colonies, we're the place for you!
Students Can Expect To:
- Cultivate food to feed rehab and education animals at the Wildlife Conservation Center
- Cultivate and distribute wild caught insects from provided traps and as well as wild greens and wild berries
- Weigh and record all wild foods harvested in a daily log
- Collect data to determine financial gain of wild food collection vs. purchased food (Possible Internship Project)
- Perform weekly duties of aquatic plant harvesting, cutting branches with beneficial leaves, aero garden harvesting, dirt and rotting log collection, cleaning colony enclosures, cultivation of insects from any at capacity tanks, and feeding weekly colonies
- Participate in nuts and berry harvesting from other Stark Parks locations
- Collect aquatic species (fishing, crayfish collecting, etc.)
- Participate in deseeding produce, seed and nut drying/freezing
- Work with the Natural Resources staff for native seed cultivation that can be used in food plots the following year
Requirements
- Must currently be actively working on a degree in field of biology, ecology and/or environment science, zoology, conservation, or equivalent field(s)
- Effective interpersonal skills
- GPA of 3.00 or higher preferred
Hours
12-24 hours a week for duration of 14 weeks, August 2026 through December 2026. Ability to work a pre determined hours and days of the week and a varied schedule including weekends is required. Typical scheduled shifts are between 8:00a.m. and 5:00p.m., but may vary with advance notice.
