Youth Ministry Intern Tarrytown Christian Church Austin, TX Part-Time | Approximately 5–6 hours per week $22 per hour
About the Position Tarrytown Christian Church is seeking two energetic, dependable, and caring Youth Ministry Interns to join our growing Student Life ministry. Our Wednesday night youth program is growing, and we are looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with middle and high school students and want to become a consistent, encouraging presence in their lives. This is a great opportunity for a college student or someone interested in youth ministry, education, counseling, nonprofit work, or simply serving young people in a meaningful way.
Think of the role a little like being a great camp counselor during the school year. You will help create an environment where students feel welcomed, known, safe, and excited to come back each week. Schedule The primary weekly commitment is: Wednesdays from approximately 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
We’d love for you to join us Sunday’s as well! Interns may also have opportunities to work additional hours during: Youth retreats Christmas and seasonal parties Special Student Life events Service projects Other youth gatherings throughout the year Regular hours will typically average approximately 5–6 hours per week, with additional paid hours available for special events.
What You'll Do Help create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for students Build positive and appropriate relationships with middle and high school students Welcome and engage new students Participate in games, activities, meals, discussions, and programming Help with setup and cleanup Encourage students and provide positive guidance Assist with supervision and student safety Help students feel included and connected Participate in special events, retreats, and youth activities when scheduled Work alongside church staff and other youth ministry leaders Become a consistent adult presence our students can depend on throughout the school year Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate: Has a sincere Christian faith and desire to serve others Enjoys working with middle and high school students Is energetic, relational, compassionate, patient, and dependable Is comfortable engaging students and initiating conversations Demonstrates maturity, good judgment, and healthy boundaries Can consistently commit to Wednesday afternoons and evenings Is willing to support the mission and ministry of Tarrytown Christian Church Can successfully complete a background screening and required safeguarding procedures Is legally authorized to work in the United States Previous youth ministry experience is helpful, but not required. Character, reliability, energy, and a genuine desire to invest in students matter most.
Compensation $22 per hour Approximately 5–6 regularly scheduled hours per week, plus additional paid hours for approved special events, retreats, and activities. Why This
