About the job
2027 Tournament Communications Internship Application
This role was created in 2024 and the IJGA will be hiring a Communications Intern to assist the full-time staff in running our summer tournaments. The Communications Intern will assist in posting to social media, photography/videography, website management, sponsor content and conducting interviews.
The Communications Intern will also assist at tournaments with Tournament Coordinator Intern responsibilities, such as being an on-course rules official, starting and scoring players, and helping with overall operations as needed.
Meet the 2026 Interns
A typical day for an IJGA intern is pretty consistent. Our staff, including interns, arrive at a course about one hour before tee times begin for the event to set up the course and check players in at registration. Each day interns will be assigned the following roles:
- Registration – during registration you check players and spectators in as they arrive at the course and give any special instructions they might need
- Course set-up – making sure the water coolers are filled and out on the course, as well as any other items on the course that need to be checked and/or set up
- Starter – you would be the official starter on the first tee, making sure players tee off on time
- Ranger – during the tournament you drive around the course to make sure players are keeping up with pace of play and assist players with any rulings that may come up
- Scoring – following the round all players must visit the scoring table where you will input their official scores into the computer
> Whether you are seeking experience in the golf / sports & entertainment / event management / not-for-profit industries, grew up playing golf, or simply looking for a fun and experiential way to spend your summer, the IJGA summer internship program will provide all of this and more. I had a blast spending my summer on golf courses throughout Chicagoland and with a great group of people as an intern in 2017. The internship improved my communication, interpersonal , and time management skills; however, the most rewarding aspect was watching the kids grow and mature both as golfers and people over the course of the summer. The game of golf has the ability to significantly influence a young person’s development and it was an incredible experience to be a small part of that process as an IJGA intern.

> I would recommend this internship to anyone who wants to work with great people and gain insight of what it takes to run a junior golf tournament. The connections I made with fellow interns, the full time staff, and the athletes made it a summer to always remember!
