U. S. Steel is seeking Accounting Student Employees to join the Accounting organization.

This role is designed for a motivated student who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in accounting, controllership, financial compliance, and the relationship between operational performance and financial results. The Student Employee will support meaningful assignments, interact with plant and corporate teams, and develop the analytical, technical, and communication skills needed to support accurate financial reporting and business decision-making.

Role Overview The Accounting Student Employee will be assigned to a specific accounting or controllership area based on business needs, development goals, and individual interests. The role provides exposure to plant accounting, controllership activities, month-end and quarterly reporting support, financial compliance, variance analysis, and the connection between operational activity and financial results.

Responsibilities Support plant accounting, controllership, and financial reporting activities aligned to business needs. Assist with month-end close, quarterly reporting, account analysis, and preparation of financial information for management review. Analyze accounting, financial, and operational data to identify trends, explain variances, and support business decisions.

Participate in accounting process reviews, compliance-related work, internal controls support, and special projects. Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and management teams through meetings, presentations, and cross-functional project work. Prepare clear, concise summaries and documentation that support accurate financial reporting and decision-making.

Manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment. Contribute to process improvement, standardization, automation, and digital reporting initiatives across the Accounting organization.

Required Qualifications Current full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related analytical discipline. Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with accounting systems, data analysis, or reporting tools preferred.

Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and succinctly. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments.

Interest in accounting, finance, operations, data analytics, or financial reporting. Willingness to work in both corporate and operational environments, including manufacturing or plant settings as needed. Reliable transportation is needed to and from operating and office locations This is a hybrid position

Demonstrated academic achievement and aptitude for area of study. Strong record of team, project, or people leadership in a work setting or extracurricular activities.

Comfortable working through complexity, ambiguity, and changing priorities. Collaborative team player who values teamwork, diversity, integrity, and professional growth.
