Note: All job offers are contingent upon Human Resources final approval Job Description: This recruitment will be used to fill up to 15 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Broadcast Student Crew positions for Academic Technologies, University Information and Technology (UIT) at Oregon State University (OSU). Real broadcasts, real audiences, real crew.

Learn live broadcasting by making it. The position is a paid student production crew within Academic Technologies. Crew members staff live, multi-camera broadcasts and campus productions that go to air for real audiences, including Pac-12 school-produced shows, Athletics in-venue board shows, commencement, and other campus events.

This is not a classroom simulation. You will work on real productions on a working crew, using professional broadcast equipment, alongside staff and industry professionals who do this for a living. Everyone joins at Level 1 and learns the fundamentals of live production from the ground up.

As you build skills and a track record, you will advance into operating positions and then into one of three Level 3 tracks. The levels are earned by learning the fundamentals first, and the students who reach them will have worked in many of the roles on the way up. Training is hands-on and mentorship-based, with shadow shifts and direct coaching from experienced crew, staff, and working on-air talent and engineers.

Program structure and pay: Level 1, Crew Member ($18.50/hr): utility and grip, cable, TOC, setup and strike, shadowing operating positions. All new hires start here. Level 2, Operator ($20.00/hr): camera operator, A1, A2 audio, replay, graphics, technical director.

Advancement by skills check-off, demonstrated performance, time in program, and recommendation. Level 3, Crew Lead ($22.50/hr): production leadership (student producer, student director, crew chief), broadcast engineering (EIC), or on-air talent. Provides peer training and mentorship to newer crew and performance feedback to program leadership.

You will have worked shows on the air, learned from professionals who do this for a living, and built a network that knows your work.

Your résumé will not say you studied broadcasting. It will say you did it. Position Duties: Shadow and cross-train on all production positions, complete skills check-offs, and apply feedback from crew leads and staff to progress through program levels.

Serve as a member of a live, multi-camera broadcast crew for Pac-12 school-produced shows, Athletics in-venue board shows, commencement, and other campus productions. Set up, cable, test, and strike broadcast equipment including cameras, audio, intercom, video routing, and production control positions, and serve as time out coordinator (TOC) during shows as assigned. Operate assigned crew positions as trained and advanced through the program: utility and grip (Level 1); camera, A1 audio, replay, graphics, technical director (Level 2); student producer, student director, crew chief, engineer in charge (EIC), or on-air talent (Level 3).

Follow show rundowns, communicate clearly on intercom, and execute cues accurately and on time under live conditions. Handle broadcast equipment safely and responsibly, report issues promptly, and help maintain an organized, safe production environment. At Level 3, provide peer training and mentorship to newer crew members and share performance observations with program leadership (no supervisory authority).

Availability to work evenings and weekends, following the event calendar, including seasonal peaks as well as around holidays. Reliable, punctual, and able to follow direction and communicate clearly in a fast-paced live team environment. Willingness to learn multiple crew positions and to start at Level 1 regardless of prior experience.

Ability to handle and transport professional broadcast equipment with care. No prior broadcast experience is required. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years. Preferred Qualifications: Prior live broadcast or live event production experience, particularly in a professional setting (three or more years for consideration toward accelerated advancement). Prior work with Pac-12 productions or other broadcast entities.

Dante certification or other broadcast, audio, or video industry certifications. Student media or campus production experience (for example, KBVR / Orange Media Network). Coursework or interest in media production, communications, or a related field.

Available to work during winter and summer breaks. Working Conditions/Schedule: Hours are event-based and follow the campus and athletics production calendar. Shifts are primarily evenings and weekends, with occasional early mornings, and commonly run 6 to 8 hours on event days.

Work volume peaks seasonally (fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons, commencement). Because hours are tied to events, most weeks will not reach the 24-hour maximum, and hours will vary week to week and term to term. All work is on campus; no travel is required.

Work takes place in production control rooms, technical operations spaces, and in and around event venues, including outdoors in variable weather. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, standing for extended periods, and working around cabling, staging, and live production equipment.
