Job Summary
As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch you will play a meaningful role in addressing some of the world's most critical infrastructure challenges. This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse, impactful projects that support our clients' goals while fostering your professional growth and advancing the success of Black & Veatch.
Join our team as a Geotechnical Engineer Intern supporitng our geotechnical projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures
- Provide geotechnical design support for both above and underground structures, grading, drainage, and pavements.
- Support the analysis and design of foundations, cut & fill retention structures, embankments and slopes, ground improvement and dewatering systems.
- Participates in project coordination meetings and works with project teams to resolve design challenges and incorporate client requirements.
- Performs routine research and develops recommendations for foundations, retention structures, slopes, and access rodes.
- Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis
- Assists with development of project schedules, cost estimates, and engineering deliverables to support successful project execution.
- Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers
- Develops and applies knowledge of engineering software, design tools, and digital delivery methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil, Structural, or engineering geology with civil engineering classes preferred.
- Masters in geotechnical degree is preferred.
- Soil mechanics and foundation engineering courses preferred.
- 3.0 GPA preferred.
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline
- Basic industry knowledge and technology trends
- Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
Minimum Qualifications
No experience required. Current enrollment in ABET accredited university in Civil Engineering program with emphasis in Structural, Environmental, Transportation, or Geotechnical. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
This intern position is expected to be in the office on a full-time basis.
