Overview Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for enthusiastic Civil Engineering students to join our Highway Engineering team in Buffalo, NY for Summer 2027! This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in highways, roadways, and transportation engineering, working side by side with experienced professionals on real projects that shape the way communities move. Our infrastructure design professionals undertake projects ranging in all sizes and complexities, providing conceptual planning, alignment studies, and preparing contract documents for construction of improvements to local and county roadway networks, and state and interstate highways.

We develop alternative improvement plans to balance project costs with other factors including environmental, utility and property impacts.

Responsibilities Assist technical staff with day-to-day design tasks for various types of transportation and traffic projects. Conduct basic engineering functions including computer-aided design, calculations and cost estimating under the direct supervision of senior engineers and managers. Develop roadway, sidewalk, intersection design, including roundabouts, traffic signals, interchanges, and other highway infrastructure.

Demonstrate the ability to prepare low-level complexity general engineering designs and/or technical data for completion and accuracy. Assist with other project related tasks such as permit applications, material testing, drawings and CAD work. Visit projects under construction and assist with field reconnaissance under the supervision of a senior engineer or project manager.

Qualifications Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related program. Interest in roadway and highway/traffic design preferred. Must have reliable transportation to the office.

Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred. Completed coursework in Transportation Engineering preferred. Possess solid problem-solving skills.

Must be able to work in a high-paced environment. Strong computer literacy, to include MS Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions. Compensation: $18.00 to $27.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
