POSITION SUMMARY This position is for pre-service / student teachers currently enrolled in an education program to train for teacher certification. This applies to those who have enrolled in their junior year and beyond. The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and student supervision in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher.

The position follows the teacher's lesson plans, maintains established classroom routines, supports a safe and productive learning environment, and communicates relevant information to school personnel at the end of the assignment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Educational

Requirements Hold a current teaching certificate from the State of Missouri; or Apply for a Content Substitute Teacher Certificate through the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary

Education (Official Transcripts must be submitted to DESE) Minimum requirement: 36 semester credit hours completed from a regionally accredited college, academic degree-granting college or university. Transcripts submitted directly to DESE; or For those with less than 36 semester credit hours, DESE requires certificate of completion from approved substitute teaching and a copy of HS Diploma or GED equivalent, or HS equivalency test (HiSET). Criminal History Background Check A fingerprinting background check will be included in the approval of the Substitute Teacher Certificate through Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary

Education (DESE). Please contact Edustaff for your district code before applying for your Substitute Teacher Certificate. Ancillary employees will need to be fingerprinted These offenses regardless of when committed: Crimes where a conviction limits ability to be near school property under State law (incest, endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree, use of a child in a sexual performance, promoting a sexual performance by a child, sexual exploitation of a minor, promoting child pornography, and furnishing pornographic material to minors).

Any offense under Chapter 566 (sex offense) or equivalent offenses from other jurisdictions, including any offense that requires registration as a sex offender. Any other offense where the applicant was over 18 and a child under 17 years of age was the victim. Any violent or forcible felony (murder, manslaughter, first or second degree assault, robbery, first degree arson).

Manufacturing, distribution, delivery of controlled substance. These offenses if committed either within the last 10 years or at any time if the person also has a conviction for any crime within 2 years other than for minor traffic offenses: Any felony weapons offense (armed criminal action, felony unlawful use of a weapon) Any other felony within 5 years These offenses within the last 2 years: Misdemeanor assault More than 3 convictions for offenses other than minor traffic offenses. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Report to the school office at the required time, sign in, obtain assignment materials and instructions, and return required materials before leaving.

Review and follow lesson plans, schedules, classroom procedures, and school expectations provided by the classroom teacher or school administration. Provide instruction, learning activities, and student support appropriate to the assigned grade level, subject area, and classroom setting. Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and inclusive learning environment using established classroom-management practices.

Actively supervise students during classroom instruction and, as assigned, during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, lunch recess, or other school activities by monitoring student behavior and the surrounding environment, recognizing verbal, visual, behavioral, and environmental cues, and responding promptly to safety concerns or requests for assistance. Monitor student participation and work, provide reasonable assistance, and adapt within the scope of the provided lesson plan and school direction. Follow student health, safety, emergency, confidentiality, behavior-support, and accommodation procedures communicated by the school.

Promptly report significant behavioral, safety, medical, or other concerns to the principal, designee, or appropriate school employee. Communication with parents or guardians should occur only when directed by authorized school personnel. Maintain accurate notes regarding completed work, attendance information when assigned, classroom events, and any matters requiring follow-up by the regular teacher or administration.

Protect confidential student and school information and comply with applicable Edustaff, district, and school policies and procedures. Perform other related duties consistent with the assignment and as directed by the building principal or designee. PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS The requirements described below are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of the positions.

Frequently receive, understand, and communicate information necessary to carry out lesson plans, supervise students, and respond to the school personnel. Remain in a stationary position and move throughout classrooms, hallways, and other school areas for varying periods of time.

Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and lift or move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, depending on the assignment. Maintain attention and situational awareness sufficient to respond appropriately to student needs and emergency procedures. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a school environment and may involve moderate to high noise levels, frequent interaction with students and staff, changing assignments, and exposure to typical classroom and school conditions.
